The Digital Fabrication Lab houses a large collection of automated prototyping tools. with multiple laser cutters, 3D printers and CNC routers the DFL offers students the resources to explore concepts of scale, materials and assembly.


HARDWARE

Laser Cutters - The mid-sized cutting systems are purposed for cutting and etching plastics, papers and fabrics. Laser cutters are commonly the first machine introduced to students and quickly become a strong companion to any design development. 3D Printers - The lab also makes use of eight rapid prototyping machines for on-demand printing of models. CNC Routers - Each campus has a large format 3 axis CNC router capable of processing plywood, plastics and foams. Soldering Station - Two soldering stations offer the students an equipped space to safely work on small electrical projects.

POLICY REMINDERS

All machines within the Digital Lab require an appointment before use.

All users must clean up after themselves. This includes removing all off-cuts from the lasers and cleaning up the CNC room after use.

The Making Complex staff does not run machines for students. The staff is present to ensure a safe work environment and to keep the machines well calibrated.

Students are allowed on the laser cutters a maximum of 1 hour per day and 3 hours per week.

SERVICES

Orientations - The Making Complex offers machine specific training to it's users on the first six weekends of each semester. Continue to the Orientations page to learn about any prerequisites and instructions on how to sign up.

Technique Demonstrations - WSOA Faculty can request technique demonstrations for their students by email their facility's manager.
