the court AND yard comprise two outdoor spaceS and an adjacent workroom. AS A PROXIMAL WORK AREA TO the DIG-FAB lAB and Workshop, the c&Y NOT ONLY PHYSICALLY bridges THE TWO SPACES BUT conJOINS THE seemingly disparate modes of fabrication.
EQUIPMENT & STATIONS
Metal Lab - Offers students the tools, training and workspace for fabricating small and large scale projects involving structural sections and sheet metals. With multiple welders, saw, brakes, benders and rollers the students can easily explore the complexities of metal work.
Ceramic Lab - The newly added Ceramic Studio augments WSOA's clay design studies and allows students a space to prepare, process and finish bodies. Adding to the quiver of 3D printers, the new ram press PotterBot encourages students to engage with presumably automated processes.
Casting Yard - Working with fluid-based materials such as concretes and plasters can initially be chaotic and messy. The Casting Yard gives students a space to work without the burden of perfect tidiness. The Making Complex has an adequate amount of tools and equipment to aid in the preparation of mold-part processes.
Spray Booth - (Coming Spring 2018) The Spray Booth ensures students are provided a safe and easy to access space to work with aerosol finishes and solvents.
The C&Y must only be used during regular operating hours. Any after hour use is a breach of the Making Complex User Agreement.
All scrap and off-cut materials must be discarded after student's work session.
The Making Complex staff does not clean up after students.
The Making Complex staff does not take fabrication order or operate machines for any user.
EAR AND EYE PROTECTION AND DUST MASKS WILL ALWAYS BE PROVIDED.
Orientations - The Making Complex offers machine specific training to it's users on the first six weekends of each semester. Continue to the Orientations page to learn about any prerequisites and instructions on how to sign up.
Technique Demonstrations - WSOA Faculty can request technique demonstrations for their students by email their facility's manager.
